The Egyptians and the Romans commonly believed that a vein from the fourth finger headed directly to the heart and made their women wear the wedding band on the fourth finger which came to be known as the ring finger.
Even though the theory has since been proven to be incorrect, the Men's Wedding Bands is still worn on the base of the left ring finger with the romantic notion of linking it directly to the heart.
